TR to PR Checklist 2026: Documents You Need Before Applying for Permanent Residency in Canada

If you’re currently on a temporary resident (TR) status in Canada (work permit or study permit), you may be preparing for a potential TR to PR pathway.

While no official TR to PR program may be open at this moment, being prepared in advance can save you weeks of stress if a pathway launches again.

Here’s a complete TR to PR document checklist, based on current IRCC documentation requirements and past program trends.

Note: This is not an official announcement. Requirements are based on existing IRCC policies and previous TR to PR pathways. Always verify details directly through IRCC.

1. Valid Status Proof (Work or Study Permit)

You must show a valid legal status inside Canada at the time of application.

Required:

You need:

  • PCC from your home country

Processing time: 2–8 weeks, depending on the country.

For Indian applicants, PCC is often processed through BLS (approx. $38, varies by region).
